Greetings from the Founder,

Dennis Kennedy

Dennis KennedyAs the founder of the National Diversity Council, I would like to welcome you to the second edition of the 2013 DMV Diversity Council Newsletter. We are very excited about the upcoming year and the events we have planned for our community. Our most popular undertaking continues to be the Women in Leadership Symposium, held annually. It has evolved over the years as meeting ground for innovative women to shape the face of leadership in their organizations.

Asian Pacific Heritage Month

The month of May has been designated as Asian-Pacific Heritage Month - a celebration of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States. The celebration of this month originated in a congressional bill introduced by Reps. Frank Horton of New York and Norman Y. Mineta of California in June 1977.

Diversity and Inclusion: It's Not Just For Big Companies Anymore

As our nation becomes more and more of a melting pot with people of all nationalities, religions, political views, economic backgrounds, lifestyles and upbringings, the importance of acknowledging and accepting these differences becomes increasingly critical to the success of an organization. In the last decade, the terms diversity and inclusion have become widespread in conversations among Human Resources professionals.
